Most of us like to “get it just right” and of course that is often a good thing, but you also have to remember that things will not always be perfect. We can strive for perfection, have high expectations and standards, pay great attention to detail and still life can throw us a curveball. When it does, we all have to learn to deal with the situation, laugh at ourselves and just get on with it!
Weddings are full of opportunities for things to go “off script”, with aged relatives, young children and animals, not to forget the weather, insects, aeroplanes, tides, nerves and emotions. I always impress upon my couples that something could go wrong and you always need to have a plan B, that takes care of weather events etc, but what about all of the other looming disasters? What you really need for them, is a sense of humour, an understanding that it is OK to be less than perfect and an ability to be alright with that.
Laughter is one of the most wonderful things in life, the best medicine, the most effective ice breaker! It can make a problem, become a plus and a room full of strangers, become friends in an instant. So if you trip on your train, forget your vows or burst into tears, if your beloved dog does the unmentionable at the alter, or your ring bearer has a tantrum, just see the funny side….
I can guarantee that these things will make your wedding more memorable. If you can laugh, we can get past them and back on track to the romantic, loving and meaningful ceremony you wanted.
