Congratulations to Trish and Adam who were married recently at the Mercure Hotel Resort, Gerringong.
This was my second wedding at the resort; it is a wonderful part of the South Coast for a wedding ceremony and reception. The service and attention to detail creates a beautiful ceremony and memories that will bring a smile to the couple’s face for years to come. The weather was fantastic; the sun was shining with a slight sea breeze.
Trish looked stunningly elegant in her traditional white wedding dress with a long skirt, a train and backless bodice. She was of course fashionably late as most brides are, despite her walk from her room to the Grove being only about 50 metres. The wait made Adam more nervous as he paced and busied himself trying to stay relaxed.
Adam is a builder by trade and for a big guy he scrubbed up very well in his red shirt with blue paisley pattern. Trish well she is a stunner.
Both were very nervous and the emotion broke for them as they read out their extremely personal vows which they had kept secret from each other. Luckily Trish’s mascara was waterproof and stayed in place.
When I prepare a wedding ceremony I want it to be different, special and unique for my couple. This includes a lot of research on my part and supporting the bride and groom with suggestions that may enhance their special day.
As Trish has a New Zealand background and is part Maori, it was essential that her Maori culture be included in the ceremony. A haka was not possible in this instance. A traditional Maori wedding blessing was our most appropriate and meaningful option. This was delivered very well by one of Trish’s relatives and the feedback from family and guests was that it was a lovely touch to honour her Maori heritage.
Wh?ia te iti kahurangi,
ki te tuohu koutou
me he maunga teitei.
Pursue that which is most precious.
If you should bow down,
let it only be to a lofty mountain.
