I recently did a wedding in the countryside of Northern Rivers NSW called Corndale. The couple, Kimberley and Adam had lived n the area all their lives , had met and were being married on the family ranch. Just about all the folk who had come to witness the ceremony were local farmers and people from the area. Everyone was friendly and happy to be there for the occasion of the wedding, and to see the couple that they had known all their lives, joined in marriage.
The ceremony was a very down to earth wholesome experience, without the razzamatazz, but with its own charming character. We all had to walk/drive about a kilometer to the wedding site, away from where the reception was held, but still on the couple’s property. The location was so beautifully idyllic, with a flowing stream of water, flowers, undulating hills and one cow who just refused to be penned and who witnessed the ceremony from a distance. The bride arrived in a red dodge vintage car, and everyone held their breath as she stepped out to meet her groom.
The choice of ceremony was a simple one, but full of heart. Kimberley’s sister read the “Art of Marriage” , the couples spoke their individually crafted vows , and Kimberley’s brother gave the Apache wedding blessing, honoring all the elements we were surrounded by. .
The storm clouds that loomed all afternoon managed to hold their load off until after the ceremony and photos were finished…very co-operative of them ! We had started the ceremony with the song ” Somewhere over the rainbow” and by the end of the ceremony a rainbow had manifested.
Such is the power of love, and the power of our thoughts, words, and deeds.
“Marriage is not only finding the right partner, it is being the right partner, it is giving an atmosphere in which each can grow, searching for the good and beautiful and accepting imperfection” paraphrased from The Art of Marriage, Wilferd Peterson.
As an authorised celebrant of many years, I have a vast experience and knowledge to give your ceremony those elements that will honour who you are and how you would like your ceremony to be with great professionalism and warmth.
As a local, I have a great knowledge of the area and can suggest localities, and services for you to use. As part of my service I suggest different poems, rituals and ways that others can participate in the ceremony and guide you as to how to make your vows. With my experience in interfaith activities , I can also honour specific spiritual traditions in your ceremony.
