One of the nicest grooms I have come across was 89 year old Ernie. His Bride was 44 year old Elaine. Ernie had been married before for 62 years. His wife passed away on Christmas Eve, 2009.
After all those years; the loss was hard to handle, until some friends said “you should get out and mingle”. At this time Ernie was about 86 years old and had been grieving for some time.
His friends asked: – “Would you like to meet someone close to your age group”
Ernie replied with a no: -“I want a youngun’; in her 40’s.”
And so-he finally met the lovely Elaine who had come out of a violent marriage. There was affection; and there was love; and there was romance.
Their Wedding was a happy occasion, with the Bridal party totalling 25 persons. His 65 year old son was his best man.
My best memory was when I said-“Ernie, you may now kiss your beautiful Bride.” Well he locked his lips to hers, and to shouts and whoops from the guests, he kissed her and wouldn’t let go. When he finally stopped kissing her, his smile was from ear to ear.
For me, that is a memory I shall hang on to.
